How do you know if you need a moisturizer or not?

Question: I have very oily skin, but I don't know if it is due to reactive seborrhea from products or if I'm just naturally this oily. I only use Pupose gentle face wash, Aqua Glycolic 10%, and sometimes Finacea. Irregardless, how do you know if you need a moisturizer or not? Some people are so proponent of them whereas others are not.

Answer: For oily skin, what you don't want is to strip it completely of all its natural oils, because your sebaceous glands will go into overdrive and make even more oil. However, if the products you're already using work for you and your skin feels good after you use them, not tight, dry or flaky, then I would say you don't need a moisturizer. If you do have tight, dry or flaky skin after using them, you need products that are a little more gentle and also a moisturizer made for oily skin. There are a number of them on the market. In the winter when my oily skin gets dry, I like Mary Kay's Oil Control Lotion 3: http://www.marykay.com/skincare/moisturization/10106800/10106800/default.aspx
