Does it matter if your signature is missing a few letters?

Question: Mine is. And does your signature actually look like your name? Mine does. I tried to make it look fancy by making a bunch of loops. hehe... :)

Answer: I think the important thing is that your "official" signature is always the same: you shouldn't change it, otherwise it would be hard to verify that it's yours. A lot of people have a sort of scribble as their signature, with most of the letters either missing or illegible. The funny thing is that, at least over here in Italy, every once in a while they specify that they want a "legible" signature. I always laugh at that and say that, if a person has a naturally "illegible" official signature, if they make the effort to render it legible, it won't be their "real" signature. Probably the best thing to request in "illegible" (or all) cases would be for the person to print (by hand) his name neatly underneath his signature, as confirmation. Sometimes I've seen this done. So maybe they're starting to realize that a "legible" signature may an impossible contradiction in many cases.
